American Psychological Association (APA) is most commonly used to write papers and cite sources within the sciences and social sciences.

**If you are not sure which citation style to use, please ask your instructor.

 The purpose of documentation is to:

• Identify (cite) other people’s ideas and information used within your essay, assignment or paper.
• Indicate the authors or sources of these in a References list at the end of your paper.

This guide is based on the APA Manual (6th ed.) that was published in 2009.

APA recently published a new edition of their Publication Manual

Some of the changes include:

• no longer include retrieval date unless source information may change over time
• expanded coverage of online resources
