Intervenor for Deaf-Blind Persons

Canadian Deafblind Association Ontario Chapter is a registered charity and has provided services across the province to members of the deafblind community for over 25 years. CDBA Ontario is recognized within Canada and around the world as a leader in the provision of Intervenor Service

The Deafblind Network of Ontario is a dynamic group comprised of individuals and organizations who work for the improvement of services for all Ontarians who have the dual disability of deafblindness.

DbI brings together professionals, researchers, families, people who are deafblind and administrators to raise awareness of deafblindness. Central to our work is to support the development of services to enable a good quality of life for children and adults of all ages who are deafblind.

The Intervenor Services Human Resource Strategy (ISHRS) is a multi-year initiative focused on professionalizing Intervenor Services, increasing the availability of highly skilled staff, and improving the quality of Intervenor Services delivery to adults living with deafblindness in Ontario.
The ISHRS is a partnership between the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services and the deafblind services sector working to ensure that deafblind services follow strong program principles and objectives, and that services are delivered in a way that is fair, accountable, financially sustainable and accessible, and that enable individuals to increase their independence.

Goals of the NFADB:
-Train and support families as they advocate for the needs of their child and family.
-Connect families to other families with similar interests and needs.
-Collaborate with other organizations to make sure the voices of consumers and families are heard at the state and national levels.
-Advise professionals researching best practices for educating, training and assisting individuals who are deaf-blind.

The Canadian Helen Keller Centre (CHKC) is the only residential training centre in Canada for people who are deafblind. Courses are taught one-on-one, using the individual's preferred mode of communication. Workshops and intensive residential stays are available. CHKC also provides support to deafblind seniors and their families and workers.

The CHARGE Syndrome Foundation champions the lifelong potential of people with CHARGE syndrome through outreach, education and research.

Founded in 1989, DeafBlind Ontario Services is a not-for-profit organization that helps individuals who are deafblind increase their independence and improve their quality of life through specialized services.

As a national technical assistance center funded by the federal Department of Education, NCDB works to improve the quality of life for children who are deaf-blind and their families by:
-Creating visibility and direction for identified priorities through a range of practices, activities, supports and partnerships.
-Identifying and encouraging new innovations in local, state, and national practice and policy.
-Promoting opportunity for reflection, debate, and constructive dialogue around ideas and developing practice.
-Maintaining a rich repository of content, history, and knowledge, easily available and shared by all who are part of the community of deaf-blindness.

The World Federation of the deafblind, WFDB, is a global non-governmental advocacy organization by and for people with deafblindness.
WFDB was established in 2001 and consists today of 75 national and associated member organizations from 62 different countries from all corners of the world.
Relationships have been established with The World Blind Union (WBU), The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), Deafblind International (DbI) and The World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI).
